Box End Middle and the Calfman

Fran alpe dhuez long 2018 cropped smallWell, we should be reporting on quite a few of our athletes racing at the Alpe D’Huez festival of triathlon / duathlon this week, sadly due to quarantine laws and operations, we are all postponed to 2022. Cant wait to revisit that view on the last climb of the day.  However, that is not to say there was no top quality racing taking place from the Goalspecific Team.

First up was Katie on Saturday with the Calfman. Slightly odd distances with a 900m swim, 45k bike and a 10k run Katie put in another solid performance and finished 2nd in her age group. All great practice and prep for the ITU Championships later this year. Liam was up next on Sunday with the Box End Middle distance. Now, Liam’s new Canyon Triathlon Bike arrived only 2 days before, and after a zoom set up with Ade and a short spin, we decided that it was a great opportunity to test it out at Box End. Now in an ideal situation, we would have spent a few weeks at least getting used to the new set up before racing, but hey, a new bike, who would want to leave it at home?  Clearly Liam did not take very long to adjust to the new set up and absolutely stormed it, best result as yet, finishing top 10 and 2nd in his AG smashing his bike split by some distance. Every race Liam is getting stronger and stronger, and now a new set of wheels to go with it! Its very exciting. Time now for a bit of R and R on a Greek beach. (Not that I am jealous!)

As for me, well sadly I still am unable to swim as the scar has still not quite sealed, but hopefully by the end of this week. However, walking unaided, and getting stronger each time I ride and Cross train. Huge thanks to Simon from Dorset physiotherapy who is building my strength and ROM week on week.

More racing next week at London Triathlon and the Salty Sea dog!
