The Benefits of Mindfulness. Course is coming here!

Tripurbeck Members were fortunate enough to have an evening with Tutor Emma Browning, on the benefits of Mindfulness in Sport, and it really was very interesting. It is developing throughout our schools and is used more and more by coaches to help their athletes prepare for competition, and training. Therefore, we are very lucky to have a tutor on our doorsteps, starting a course from the PUrbeck Sports Centre from the 8th June. (6-8pm)

Here is a very brief outline of what Mindfulness is about:

Mindfulness involves learning to direct our attention to our experience as it unfolds, moment by moment, with open-minded curiosity and acceptance. Rather than worrying about what has or might happen, it trains us to respond skilfully to whatever is happening right now.

Mindfulness is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence and is used widely within the NHS due to its proven ability to catch negative thoughts patterns before they tip into a downward spiral, helping to reduce repeated depressive and anxious tendencies.

Mindfulness is also being used widely within the sports and business fields as it has been shown to help people achieve greater focus and peak performance.

Research has consistently proven that by learning and practising mindfulness it can help people to:

•Improve their health and wellbeing
•Feel calmer, less anxious
•Feel less depressed
•Learn more effectively
•Become more focused
•Perform better
•Manage pain more effectively

This 8 week course will teach you all the methodology and skills needed to develop your own life long mindfulness practise. There is a natural pace to developing a mindfulness practise and we explore each stage week by week in full. Regular home practise is set in between classes and each week individuals build on their experiences and address any issues they maybe finding with the process. Full support is offered by the tutor throughout including time in between sessions if needed.

Tutor – Emma Browning

I have been practicing mindfulness for 16 years. In that time I have lived in many different places and been taught meditation and mindfulness by a number of teachers. I am a trained meditation and mindfulness teacher with the organisation Zenways and I teach their 8 week mindfulness course which mirrors the current courses being run in the health sector. I also have a qualification to teach mindfulness to young people from the organisation MISP (Mindfulness In Schools Project). I have been teaching mindfulness sessions and courses in the charity sector and within a local school for the last two years.
