Some racing news from Goalspecific athletes

We have had a few athletes braving the weather over these last few months! Claude, who came on board in October, with his key focus of developing his speed over Sprint Duathlon Distance, raced his first Sprint Duathlon at Eton a couple of weeks ago. He raced it last year, so it was a good chance to see how some structured training was going to improve his performance.! This is what Claude had to say!

“Having completed my first ever duathlon at this event in 2014, I was looking to see what effect some intensive “Fran” training would make on my times when I repeated this course in January this year. Around 300 people turned up early on a very cold 3° C Sunday in Jan to compete in the Olympic, Sprint – my distance – and Super Sprint distances. Overall I came 16th (out of 76) and 2nd in my age group. I was most pleased by my improvement hitting a PB on the first 5km and taking nearly 5 mins off my total time. It was nice to see that all that “Fran” torture had paid dividends. This was the 1st of a series of 4 and I look forward to seeing how I do in the next event on 21st Feb.”

Brendan was up next in his mid week Army Mountain bike duathlon, and I have to say, I think he faced the worst of the weather! It was a terrible day! However, he put in a great effort, and came home in 4th overall position, and they were all pretty close up the front . Great way to start the season. Finally, but by no means least, the super speedy Serena was up to tricks again, this time in the Brighton Southern Cross Country Championships. Despite being young in her age group (that is 15 in the under 17 women age group), she took on the tough 5k cross country course and came in 8th overall in 18:15 – brilliant and I know there is so much more to come as well. Very exciting. Results can be found here http://seaa.org.uk/images/2015/XC_Main_Champs_Results/2015_U17_Women.pdf

Claude will be racing again in Feb in his next Sprint Duathlon and Mark, and myself will be dusting off our bikes in March to have some fun in Brutal Events Duathlon in Swanage.

Good Luck to Serena and Sam in the Schools Cross Country event next weekend as well, I think its the final (sam and Serena are featured here in the picture after their success with Lily at Bustinskins Osprey Sprint last year!) – results will follow.
