ITU World Championships Pontevedra

At the end of September several GS athletes headed over to Pontevedra, Spain to compete in the AG World Championships against the best athletes from across the globe. Linda, Rose, Jenny and David were all competing in the sprint with David doubling up in the Aquabike.

The sprint event came first on Thursday afternoon. All 4 produced fab swims to exit the water high up in their respective age group rankings. Linda, racing in an incredibly competitive AG, then put in a solid bike on a hilly course and a strong run to finish 22nd in her category. David’s excellent swim (13th in AG) put him close to the front pack on the bike and he is super strong on the hills. He hasn't been able to put in as much speed work on the run as we would like due to recovery from injury but still pulled out a good run to finish 26th in AG out of nearly 100 - really good performance. Rose was in superb form and showed his much she has improved in the swim coming out with the lead women in her AG. It was nip and tuck on the bike and a really good run secured an excellent 6th place finish just a couple minutes off podium spot. Finally in the sprint, Jenny swam well, biked well and ran brilliantly to lead her AG from start to finish and become an AG World Champion. Amazing :-)

David only had 36 hours to recover for the aquabike - a bit of a tight schedule - but was ready to go again on Saturday morning. Another excellent swim (10th in AG) put him up in the lead group and a great bike on his roadie against the TT riders saw him finish in an excellent 16th place overall.

Fab racing all round and looking forward to next year when the Euros are in Kitzbuhel and the Worlds are in Hamburg.
