First race of the season for Matt!

Before Gran Canaria in a couple of weeks, Matt entered Dorney standard duathlon for a bit of race specific practice before Challenge Gran Canaria in a couple of weeks. As part of his training block, and with a slight cold, the plan was to just test everything out, nutrition, bike kit, transitions etc and see how the body performed, which it would seem was very well! Despite being cautious, a 34min 10k run put him at the front with 2 other chaps. A quick transition, and Matt sensibly paced the bike well, without over doing it, but practicing key positioning and fuelling, and took the 2nd run with caution, to finish 3rd overall, and winning his Age Group. It was a great result, especially as there is definitely more in the tank, but this was not the event to test full capacity! The key now is to rest, recover, nip the cold in the bud (and zinc will help there!) then prepare for the warmer and undulating nature of Challenge Gran Canaria. Looking forward to seeing you out there, with a fully functioning bike this time :)
