Alpe D’Huez Training camp 2026

I have to say out of the many years of running this camp we may have topped it with the weather this year! Wall to wall sunshine, and hot! Even the lake had warmed up to a temperature for non wetsuit swims (not me I might add!)

Athletes arrived the weekend before the camp started so we obviously sneaked in some extra rides and swims before the official start, which was a good opportunity to find the climbing legs as we jumped straight into the long ride on Monday due to road closures over Col D’Ornon later in the week. This iss a tough challenge for anyone but particularly this year for Emma, George and Deborah who had not long completed the triple up Mont Ventoux but they seemed to take it all in their stride!  A stunning 115km with over 3000m of climbing never disappoints, finishing at the top of Alps D’Huez. I think it may have been our fastest year yet as well!

Over the course of the week we climbed up to Saint Christophe via Venosc, Villard Reculas, Col de la Croix de Fer and many km between. The team nailed quality stand alone run sets and a few bricks, one of which was at the top of Alpe D’Huez on the triathlon run route, with most days cooling off in the Lac de Laffrey or the pool at Gavet for a more structured swim set.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable week, with (I believe) many strava segments nailed as well. The star performance has to go to Becky, who at 28 weeks pregnant sensibly swam ran and biked with us, safely within her HR guidelines all week.

That is going to be one speedy baby!

Sad to see everyone head home, it was an excellent week! Looking forward to the next one, with a little one in tow.
