Nice IM 70.3 World Championships, Reading and Bournemouth

This weekend’s racing for the team was at IM Nice 70.3 WC on Saturday, where myself and Becky were lining up, and on Sunday Matt was racing the standard at Reading and Will racing the standard tri in Bournemouth. First up was Becky, who despite flight cancellations and a lack of sleep, remained focused and positive with the very clear goals of enjoying the whole atmosphere and “not coming last”. I definitely knew the 2nd was nailed but you can never predict how a race unfolds. I was incredibly impressed with Becky, how she managed the nerves, how she planned for the race, how to tackle the climbs and maintain a positive mindset throughout, and she absolutely nailed it. Apart from seeing her in the toilet queue  (…. Where else! ) I didn’t see her again until the run, looking super strong with a smile on her face, absolutely brilliant. Executed the event perfectly, and has come away feeling positive. Well done Becky, well impressed!! 

Next up were Matt and Will on Sunday, with another two great race executions. Matt won the Reading triathlon outright despite a flat tyre 10k from T2, and Will put in a really solid race, the first in a while as well whilst balancing very small children and a very busy job. Three different strategies and all incredibly inspiring as all of the objectives from each athlete were achieved. 

As for my race, well that’s a different story, and one that I was not going to post about. However, after chatting through the challenging lead in to the race and terrible execution with fellow athlete Eric, in a very thoughtful email, he suggested that being open about the experience is helpful for others. So, I will, on the next blog!
